There are several ways to use the Marriage 911: First Response resources:

  • In-person class
  • Small group
  • One-on-one
  • Individual, privately with a support partner

First, you will need to get the Marriage 911 First Response Leader’s Kit which includes a step-by-step Leader’s Guide. This explains in detail how to train support partners, respond to someone in crisis, and how to conduct classes or small groups.

Next, it is important to understand that this ministry is not a couple’s ministry. There are times when both spouses desire to work on their marriage and attend a class together, and that is wonderful to see. However, when a spouse has one foot out the door, and is unwilling to even admit there is a problem–or bolts in the midst of couple’s counseling or a class–the abandoned spouse is left hopeless. That is where this ministry comes in! The Leader’s Guide lays out a plan for you or your church to come alongside the hurting spouse, as well as keep your pastor or leaders from burning out while trying to respond to the demands of a couple in crisis.

The 12-week Marriage 911: First Response Workbook and Support Partner Handbook provides weekly lessons based on biblical principles. With comments from licensed counselors, and reconciliation tools that really work, the abandoned spouse is encouraged to focus on their own emotional and spiritual growth in the areas of anger, honesty, fear, and more, instead of focusing on what their spouse needs to change.

Important: Since these resources work without the participation of both spouses, a church can respond immediately to the call for help, rather than waiting until the unwilling spouse decides to get help…which sometimes never happens!

Last, this ministry is designed to have men with men and women with women for several reasons (which are explained in the Leader’s Guide). Each spouse is required to have his or her own copy of the workbook. This will avoid spouses “checking” on each other’s answers or progress. While going through the workbook, it is recommended to have the person view the weekly videos. See the “Weekly Video” page.

Feel free to text or email (in contact section) for more information on how to begin a ministry in your church or community.  The following short videos are from leaders and can be used for you or your team.
